THE PINK CITY

About Jaipur

Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, is one of India’s most captivating heritage cities—a place of grand forts, royal palaces, colourful bazaars and centuries-old traditions.

Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur was carefully planned with broad avenues, organised markets and distinctive architecture. Its historic walled city later became famous as the Pink City, recognised for the warm terracotta-pink colour of its traditional buildings.

Jaipur offers a fascinating introduction to Rajasthan. Visitors can explore magnificent royal architecture, walk through lively old-city markets, discover traditional crafts and textiles, experience local cuisine, and see everyday life unfold among temples, courtyards and historic neighbourhoods.

Together with Delhi and Agra, Jaipur forms part of India’s celebrated Golden Triangle, making it an ideal destination for travellers experiencing North India for the first time as well as those planning a longer journey through Rajasthan.
